CLOUD TECHNOLOGY AND BUSINESS APPLICATION

Information technology is changing every day. How to cultivate the students’ ability of information science and technology to serve as the basis of information ability for various subjects in the future is the main goal of this course. The aims of this subject are to familiarize students with the concepts and applications of cloud technology in information technology, and to familiarize students with software for business applications in word processing, spread sheets and presentations. By learning this course, they will have the ability to use relevant software operations, integration and manipulation with data, and learn how to cooperate and share through the cloud tools.

Course Outcome: The course is proposed to set up in the freshman year. The course aims to familiarize the students with the relevant information skills of the application of cloud technology, as well as the practice of business application software to integrate with the multimedia and analyze data. COMPUTATIONAL THINKING AND COMPUTER PROGRAMMING

This course teaches the fundamental concepts of computer programming, the ability of logical thinking and computational thinking for students with no programming background. Learning from the practical program projects, students can develop simple applications relating to their majors. Through this course, it can attract the attention of students in programming, and enhance the ability to solve problems through the computer.

Core Program:A General Survey of World Civilizations

This subject is approved as a core compulsory course that aims to provide students a foundation for the development of Language objective included in Wenzao’s 3L education goals. The content of「World Civilization History」contains the time ranged from BC to 2017 AD, including era of myth, ancient civilizations of West Asia, Egypt and India, Greece and Roman classical civilization, the formation of Christian World and the Rising of Islam and Buddhism, Byzantine civilization, Renaissance, Enlightenment, Africa, Central and South America civilization and the development of modern culture. The course will not only have a broad introduction of all covered civilizations, but also have an in depth discussion of selected topics. We hope to provide students with a basic and focused comprehension of the history of all major civilizations in the world, so that students can have a macro breakthrough point to understand the various civilizations that affect the world today.

Core Program:Logical thinking

This is a required course. Cultivating basic student leadership is a critical part of this course and it is also one of school mission (3L) in Wenzao. This course will be divided into two parts. In the beginning, the class will focus on the basic principles and techniques of logical speculation, offering students methods to distinguish right from wrong and training them to think independently. After a midterm exam, the class will go further. It will focus on applying the knowledge into major issues from different industries. Through adopting intersubjectivity, the teacher will lead the class to reflect, speculate, and infer issues step by step. By doing this, students can learn the value of judgement and leading intelligence.

Physical Education

The course of Physical Education for Freshmen is designed to be various, entertaining and practicable. The content includes ball games (tennis, badminton, basketball and volleyball), Taichi, wellness management (exercise prescription and weight control), and recreational sports (mountain climbing and hiking). It is hoped that students will enrich their exercise plan, balance their physical and mental development, and understand the benefits of sports and their importance to life, so that they will cultivate their habit of regular exercise, and further build up the concept of life-long exercise.

Contemporary Literature (I)

The course is designed for the freshmen of a 4-year College. It focuses on the discussion of works by famous modern writers, including their backgrounds, experiences, features, contributions and the impact of their productions.

Course Outcome: It helps students develop the capabilities of appreciating beautiful prose. Curriculum includes the exploration of the writers’ perspectives, composition skills, rhetorical skills, stylistic construction and correlations for a piece of writing: feelings, ways of thinking and reflections on the topic. Students will learn and imitate the skills while studying the prose in order to become excellent and professional writers with gentle temperaments, spirituality, as well as love for humans and nature.

Contemporary Literature (II)

This is the advanced course to Contemporary Chinese Literature I, aiming to facilitate students’ reading comprehension skills and cultivate their abilities associated with the humanities and the arts. This course covers mostly on novels and modern poetries from contemporary masters. It also stresses on background, creativity process, features and contributions the author made.

Anthology of Chinese Literature

This course focuses on the readings of selected Chinese literary works. The curriculum is divided into three sessions: (1) General principles: an introduction to Chinese classical literary works and an elaboration of the progress and transformations of the Chinese classical canons. (2)Profound reading and discussion: Masterpieces are selected from different stages in the history in order to appreciate and discuss. (3)Provided an new interpretation to Chinese Classical Literature.

This course starts from general business letters and moves to the application of commercial advertisements and legal documents. This course will guide the students to cultivate and apply their innovative and creative ability in the creation of cultural or educational products, in order to enhance their work-related skills in the cultural or educational sector. Introduction to Communication

The purpose of this course is to introduce the basic concepts, development, content and types of mass communication including television, radio, newspapers, magazines, books, advertising, film, Internet and so on. Based on the different types of media, and content of the historical development, this course brings students to analyze the characteristics and to explore the mass media in social, political, economic and cultural influences as well as the current situation and future development.

Photography Practice

The primary goal of this course is to make students familiar with the basic professional tenets of photography (camera) by introducing its principles and actual applications. This includes the knowledge of aperture, shutter, lenses, and composition. Contemporaneously, this course cultivates the student’s photographic skills and digital post-production capabilities

This course aims to introduce the basic skill of how to practice making a short film. Introduction to Art

This course aims to lead the students to cross the threshold of art from life, to look for the art from the daily life, and then into the temple of art. This course includes knowledge of various types of arts, such as visual arts, music, performing arts, movies and the art of living, including urban aesthetics, architecture, design, and art form the daily life. Hoping that a wide range of approach stimulates students to appreciate different art and the art of daily life, and improve the understanding the cultural essence and meaning of works of art.

Proposal Writing

This course aims to use case study as a method to facilitate students in writing different project proposals for broadcast, TV program, advertising and marketing in order to help them establish the skills of basic project planning and writing.

This course is designed to teach students media terminologies and knowledge of the media. This course also teaches students how to write an English resume and prepare a media-related job interview. This course is to improve students’ English reading, writing, listening, and speaking through different topics, videos, and articles related to the media. This course is also to help students to have an international view in the globalization age.

This course is to provide basic knowledge and relative aesthetic theories of film art. It includes the studies of motion image, cinematic framing, visual-audio editing, sound effect, musical composition, script and dramatic structure. The course aims to lead graduating students in planning and undertaking their graduate project, as well as utilizing the various aspects of digital media planning and production they have learned in order to produce graduate projects for various varieties of programs. This course stresses the procedures involved in pre-production and trains students to write a research report concerning communication arts.

The course aims to teach the basic skills in news reporting and writing, including news gathering techniques, news writing essentials, the news editing skills. This course is a continuance of Project Production (Ⅱ). The instructor will divide students into groups during instruction in order to assist the graduating class in producing a final graduation product or graduate report, in addition to having students put on a graduation exhibition in (or outside of) the school for seniors after they have completed their project or report.

The goal of this course is to guide students in becoming familiar with the working environment. Through personally participating in the communication industry’s actual practices and operations, as well as its work processes, students come to have an understanding of the present day communication arts industry’s working principles and also acquire knowledge of its work environment, as well as related ethical principles. This course involves at least 160 hours of internship experience in summer vacation period. Students must also produce a report on their internship experience and be evaluated by the head of the organization at which they intern.

Music and Sound Design

Non-Linear Video Editing

This course aims to help students understand the principle and concept of the Non-Linear editing. The learning content includes the integrative practice of editing, video effects and visual representation. The students are to use the knowledge and skill to experience and complete an audio-visual production; they will be instructed to produce a multimedia art work in groups. The purpose of the module is also to help them increase the quality and the number of multimedia work for their school portfolio.

Sound is categorized as acoustic art, which is a matter of co-dependency of aural perception. People cannot catch the whole idea of music (especially for the content of abstract musical creation) until the end of it. The “Sound Design” course is expected to be conducted in a systematic manner to introduce,listening and appreciation to expand the field of music. This course will enable students to understand and establish how to use music in life and the ability to produce a variety of sound effects.

This course aims to assist the students to be equipped with the basic concept of broadcasting and to promote their interest of radio by practical course.
