Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages is actively expanding academic exchanges between Taiwan and the United States. The school recently signed a sister school memo with Western Oregon University, Eastern Oregon University, Southern Oregon University, and Oregon Institute of Technology with Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai attending the ceremony. In the future, both parties will engage in close exchanges and cooperation in areas such as faculty and student visits, student exchanges, research, and Chinese language teaching programs, aiming to cultivate international and interdisciplinary talents.
The delegation from Oregon, led by State Representative Paul Evans, included senior academic officials from the four famous universities: President Jesse Peters from Western Oregon University, President Kelly Ryan from Eastern Oregon University, President Rick Bailey and Chair Sheila Clough from Southern Oregon University, and President Nagi Naganathan from Oregon Institute of Technology. This was their first visit to Wenzao, and they highly praised the university’s international campus and professional learning environment.
Wenzao President Chuang Hui-ling warmly welcomed the distinguished guests. She stated that the alliance with renowned American higher education institutions had a significant meaning. President Chuang emphasized that Wenzao, founded in 1966 by a group of Ursuline sisters from Rome, has always adhered to the spirit of “internationalization.” Wenzao has over 320 sister schools worldwide at the moment, offering students opportunities to study abroad and hosting students from 19 countries to foster a multicultural campus. This partnership with Oregon universities marks an important milestone in Wenzao’s international development, strengthening its global connections and opening a new era for academic exchange and development.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai remarked that Wenzao is the best university in Taiwan for language education and expressed gratitude to Representative Paul Evans for facilitating the partnership. He further mentioned the close interaction between the Kaohsiung City Government and Wenzao, highlighting the university’s emphasis on cultivating interdisciplinary talents. Despite being a liberal arts university, Wenzao has attracted tech giant TSMC to recruit its students for positions in Japan, proving that “forming a sister school relationship with Wenzao is the right choice.”
