Career

Dr. Hwei-Lin Chuang is the President of Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages. After receiving a B.A. from National Taiwan University, she earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from Ohio State University. She was a research associate at the Center for Human Resource Research at Ohio State University in 1990.  Prior to joining Wenzao University in 2023, she had been a professor of economics at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) since 1991. She was also a visiting scholar of economics at University of California, Los Angeles from 1997 to 1998.

During her affiliation with NTHU, she served in many administrative positions, including three years as Chairperson of the Department of Economics, one year as Director of the Undergraduate Program of Management and Technology, four and half years as Director of the University Library, two years as Dean of the Commission of General Education, and three years as Dean of the College of the Technology Management.

Her teaching and research focus is in the areas of empirical labor economics and applied micro-econometrics. Her writings cover publications in journals such as International Review of Economics and Finance, Pacific Economics Review, American Journal of Economics and Sociology, Social Science & Medicine, Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, Quantitative Finance, Astin Bulletin, Economic of Education Review, Journal of Asian Economics, Asian Economic Journal, Journal of Socio-Economics, Journal of Social Psychology, Applied Economics, Taiwan Economic Review, Journal of Financial Studies, Journal of Management, etc. She is also a member of the editor committee for the Taiwan Journal of Applied Economics.

Dr. Chuang has been a consultant for the public sector in Taiwan, offering professional advice to Council for Economic Planning and Development, Ministry of Education at the central government level as well as Taipei City Government and Hsinchu City Government at the local government level. She has won numerous grants and awards, among which are the Research Award of the National Science Council, the Service Award of the Ministry of Education, and the Research Award of the National Tsing Hua University. She also served for several terms at the Board of Trustees for Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages.
