About our Department

Based on whole-person education, we emphasize the acquisition of professional knowledge, teaching skills, and the formation of sound work ethics to cultivate professional personnel in foreign language teaching who, in consequence, will have a well-balanced personality, strong ethical values, and a positive and healthy attitude toward educating young people. Students will also acquire a solid academic foundation to enable them to pave the way for better foreign language teaching quality in Taiwan.

Curriculum Features

Our courses largely focus on training students to teach foreign languages, and to design foreign language curriculum and multimedia materials. Courses include enhanced competence in two foreign languages, expertise in language teaching in theory and practice, cultural and cross-cultural communication courses, implementation of instructional technology in language teaching, literature for children and young adults, testing and evaluation of foreign language learning, methodology of education research, and domestic and overseas internships.

The department curriculum design has the following features:
• Courses are taught with English as the medium of instruction
• Encourages language and professional certification
• Stresses language teaching theories and practice.
• In addition to English, students are encouraged to learn another language such as French, German, Japanese, or one of the Southeastern languages.
• Many courses encompass research training elements to equip students with research skills and knowledge
• Encourages domestic or oversee internship
• Gives students choices to enroll in the teacher education program or take other language courses to develop additional specialty.
• Provides students with options to choose double majors, minor studies or education courses, and helps them be more competitive in future work place.

Professor/Chair of the Department of Foreign Language Instruction

Mu-Hsuan Chou has a Ph.D. in Education from the University of York (UK), and is an associate professor at the Department of Foreign Language Instruction. Her current research interests include educational psychology, language testing, and learning strategy.

Associate Professor

Dr. Kung acquired his doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Texas A&M University, College Station. His research areas focus on Computer-assisted Language Learning and Instrucional Technology.

Emma Mei-Hua Lan

Emma Mei-Hua Lan

Associate Professor

With Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in TESOL, Dr. Lan has focused her teaching, research and projects on English Teacher Training, Language Teaching Methodology, Second Language Acquisition, Reflective Teaching and Portfolio Assessment. During the 9 years of teaching at Wenzao, she has conducted more than 60 Industry-Academia Cooperation and Research Projects.

Gradudated from Eastern Michigan Unvieristy with MBA in 2000. Taught in Ming Chuan University, Alethia University and Taipei City University from 2001-2004. Studied PhD in Indiana University in Bloomington and started teaching in Wenzao since 2008.

Lim Ha Chan

Assistant Professor

LIM HA CHAN, MEd, has over 20 years of teaching experience with elementary students in Hong Kong and college students in Taiwan. She mainly teaches ESL/EFL and trains EFL teachers. She is a certified BULATS trainer. She also has obtained the First Certificate for Teachers of Business English and the Certificate of EMI Skills.
