Nov 1, 2021

Wenzao holds ICSEAS and publishes a monograph.

Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages held the 2021 Wenzao Ursuline International Conference on Southeast Asian Studies (Wenzao Ursuline ICSEAS), where 57 scholars and experts from 9 countries: Belgium, the U.S., Russia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Taiwan, presented a total of 41 papers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the university combined both physical and online solutions to make the conference this year a hybrid event. It adopted in-person / live-streamed presentations and physical / online publication of papers, creating a new type of platform for the dissemination of academic research and exchanges among scholars. The conference generated fruitful results and the participation of 169 scholars, experts, and students on the scene and 155 viewers online.

The theme of the 2021 Wenzao Ursuline ICSEAS was Southeast Asia Under Stress: COVID-19, Geopolitics and Domestic Challenges. Professor Chin-fu Hung from the Department of Political Science of National Cheng Kung University was invited to give a keynote speech titled COVID-19 in Southeast Asia: Vaccine Distribution, Geopolitics, and the Emerging New U.S.-China Cold War. International Indonesia Forum (IIF), an academic partner of Wenzao, invited Donald Emmerson, a senior research fellow at Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies from the U.S., to deliver an online speech titled Globalization 3.0: Indonesia in International and Domestic Perspectives for the conference.
