Wenzao Ursuline University is proud to announce the publication of The European Parliament and Global Health, a new book by Vincent Rollet, faculty member at the French Department (Graduate Institute of European Studies), Wenzao Ursuline University. Published by Routledge in mid-July 2024, this book offers a pioneering exploration of the European Parliament’s (EP) role in global health.
In this work, Vincent Rollet provides a comprehensive analysis of the EP’s capacity to influence global health policy. Utilizing an innovative analytical framework, the book examines the EP’s actorness across five key global health issues: pandemic response, access to essential medicines in developing countries, international trade and global health, medical research and development in poverty-related and neglected diseases (PRNDs), and global health governance.
The research reveals that, despite numerous challenges, the European Parliament has played a significant role in addressing these global health concerns. By leveraging its competences and instruments, the EP has been able to launch initiatives and exert substantive influence over global health policies. This analysis highlights the critical importance of democratically elected institutions in global health governance.
This publication marks a significant contribution to the academic community and reflects the ongoing commitment of Wenzao Ursuline University to fostering research that addresses global challenges.
