President Mei-Hua Chen of Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages and Dr. Randall L. Nadeau, Executive Director of Foundation for Scholarly Exchange, Fulbright Taiwan signed a cooperation memorandum dubbed as “Fulbright Taiwan- WZU Mandarin-Taught Master’s Degree Program Award in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language” This memorandum not only allows us to invite more top U.S. students to learn Chinese and explore dual system education professionally in Taiwan, but also deepen the influence of Taiwan’s higher education and Mandarin education in the world.
Fulbright Project begins from encouraging understanding and trust between people by rewarding talented and passionate students, scholars, artists, and professionals from various backgrounds or domains to spread, explore, and exchange knowledge. The Fulbright Project has already been implemented globally for 70 years. It is also the most indicative international exchange project in the U.S. The project is operated by 49 foundations and over 100 ambassadors, with participation from a total of 160 countries. Through the opportunities provided by this project, scholars, students, and partner sectors from all over the world are able to communicate with each other, forming a diverse and active network. By encouraging multilateral understanding, the project aims to promote the sharing of knowledge for the improvement of human lives.
In the past, the current executive director of the foundation, Dr. Randall L. Nadeau was able to come to Taiwan to gain and exchange knowledge thanks to the Fulbright Project. Back then, he even visited Wenzao University, and built a tight connection with our school. Several years later, after realizing that the foundation was seeking to form a project which could cooperate and interact with universities in southern Taiwan, he then chose Wenzao as his first choice of university to cooperate with. This project has awarded Wenzao students high scholarships to study in the U.S., allowing them to contribute their talents to the professional field of teaching Mandarin. In addition to broadening their visions as well as accumulating new experiences and strength, these students have promoted Taiwanese culture and Mandarin language to the world.
Foundation for Scholarly Exchange, Fulbright Taiwan believes in the accomplishment of Wenzao University in the Mandarin professional field. Therefore, they signed this project to cooperate with Wenzao University’s newly established College and Operation Center of Mandarin. We hope that we can continue to promote more multilateral and multilingual exchange in the future.
