Dec 22, 2025

The Department of International Affairs at Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages recently held its 19th Graduation Thesis Presentation. Faculty and students gathered for the event, with parents and alumni also in attendance to witness the academic achievements of the graduating class after four years of study. The lively atmosphere on site not only demonstrated students’ solid academic training, but also highlighted the department’s long-term commitment to internationalized education.

A total of 25 research projects were completed this year, from which 10 were selected for presentation at the event. The topics covered international politics, economics, society, and culture, incorporating cross-national comparisons and empirical research methods. Featured research themes included youth entrepreneurship and international cooperation, education and gender differences, the development of small and medium-sized enterprises under “slowbalization,” religion and social innovation, anti-fraud awareness, social integration of new immigrants, cross-cultural identity, the impact of misinformation on democratic politics, youth political participation, as well as trends in digital finance and cross-border payments. These studies closely reflected global developments and demonstrated students’ sharp observation and critical thinking on international trends.

The event opened with a ceremony, followed by two rounds of presentations. An on-site Q&A session and audience voting were conducted, culminating in the presentation of the “Academic Excellence Award” and the “Top Three Graduation Projects” to recognize outstanding research performance. Many parents and alumni expressed their appreciation for the students’ academic achievements and encouraged younger students to continue broadening their international perspectives and develop competencies in addressing public issues.

A particularly touching moment took place during the event when faculty and students prepared a symbolic shovel representing “opening up new horizons” as a gift to Professor Lin Jian-hong, who is set to retire. The gesture expressed gratitude for his 20 years of dedication to the department’s development and companionship, symbolizing the shared hope of faculty and students in creating new milestones for international affairs education. The atmosphere was deeply moving.

Department Chair Hsieh Jen-he noted that the graduation thesis presentation is not only an important milestone in students’ academic journey, but also a platform that strengthens connections among faculty, students, parents, and alumni. He added that the department will continue to guide students in engaging with global public issues and in cultivating cross-cultural communication and international research capabilities.
