To acknowledge migrant workers’ contribution to the society of Taiwan, the USR team of Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages and One-Forty, an NGO for the education and culture of migrant workers in Taiwan, held a photography exhibition on November 23rd titled Creating an Inclusive and Friendly Culture for Migrant Workers in Taiwan, giving citizens insights into how migrant workers perceive Taiwan and an opportunity to listen to their voices.
Tiny Screws of White Tower, the Wenzao USR team, has long cared for the lives of migrant workers in Taiwan. In addition to providing interpretation for migrant workers seeking medical attention, the team also organized events like photography exhibitions on campus to help the public better understand the life of migrant workers from Southeast Asia, so that the public would treat them with empathy and kindness.
The photography exhibition led the audience to learn about the life and work of migrant workers from their perspectives. Through photographs taken by migrant workers, the public became more aware of what challenges they might face in terms of language, food, cultural shock, and racial discrimination, as well as what emotional problems they might have, such as the lack of a sense of belonging, emptiness, and loneliness, due to parting with their families. With the photography exhibition, Wenzao and One-Forty called on the public to show more love and inclusion to migrant workers and take action to appreciate them for their devotion and contribution to the society of Taiwan.
